The Springfield police crackdown on illegal firearms has led to another arrest.
Officers responded to a report of a wanted person in the 800 block of South 25
th Street. Springfield cops and members of the US Marshal’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force located 33-year-old Levente Ingram and arrested him without incident. Police recovered a stolen firearm.
Ingram is being held on several charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
All six are in custody of the Sangamon County Jail.
Charged were Anthony Strange, 24; Mysean Burden, 18; Jahquel D. Pearsall, 18; Michael A. Smith, 27; Jerry E. Broomfield, 18 and Michael A. Benning, 19, all of Springfield.
Smith, Broomfield and Benning all face armed violence charges. The Class X felony is punishable by 15 to 30 years behind bars.
All three were arrested together by the Springfield Police Department s Street Crimes Unit when a vehicle they were in attempted to elude officers in the 1200 block of South Dirksen Parkway late Friday evening.
Officers found a loaded Glock 9mm pistol, prescription pills, cannabis and money in the vehicle.

On May 26, 2020, at approximately 7:59 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 3200 block of Ridgewood Drive for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 31-year-old male with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds in a yard outside of a private residence. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
As the investigation progressed, Champaign Police developed information to identify Coreyon Anthony Duncan, 32, of Champaign, as the suspect in the shooting investigation. An arrest warrant for Duncan was obtained by the Champaign County State s Attorney s Office for the offense of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery/Discharge of a Firearm. Bond on the warrant was set at $2 million.
