County councillor for Humshaugh Nick Morphet outlines his vision

One area of Tynedale will now be served by a county councillor from the Green party, ending the Tories’ dominance in the ward. Tynedale resident Nick Morphet caused a shock as he claimed the Humshaugh seat, winning the Green Party’s first ever seat on Northumberland County Council. Conservative Rupert Gibson, who served Humshaugh for eight years, lost his seat as county councillor for the ward. A total of 1,046 people voted the Green Party candidate, with 849 wishing for Coun. Gibson to keep the seat. It was a two-horse race with Labour’s Milo Barnett receiving just 80 votes, and Stuart Rowlands, for the Liberal Democrats, receiving only 30.
