Council leader David Renard This time last week the whole nation was riding the crest of a wave as we eagerly looked forward to seeing England compete in their first major football championship final for 55 years. Sadly, it was not to be but I think we can all be rightly proud of Gareth Southgate’s players for getting so far and lifting the country’s spirits following an extremely difficult period during the pandemic. This young team did us proud in a highly pressurised environment and have made us all hopeful of great success in the coming years. Now as we approach what was initially dubbed ‘Freedom Day’ next Monday, the third wave forecast by the Government is underway, which could have a very big impact on our lives over the next few months.

Live at Lydiard team offer free tickets to GWH staff as final preparations made for music festival

Organisers are putting the final touches in place to the August 21 festival. And to say thank-you to the hardworking healthcare heroes who have been vital to tackling the pandemic over the past 18 months, they’re giving the 1,000 tickets to health workers. Director Jack Summers said:“It’s an honour for us to be able to give something back to the NHS, which has made huge sacrifices in the last 16 months. Widow hits out at late husband s treatment at GWH

HEARTBROKEN Asha Rogers says she’s been badly let down by the NHS after her partner of 18 years died. She is calling for lessons to be learned after issues she had with John Rogers’ treatment at Great Western Hospital in Swindon. The 42-year-old shared the story of her beloved John, a lorry driver, who received treatment between 2011 and 2017. Asha claims that over the period, he was diagnosed with a number of conditions like a heart problem, a deteriorating liver and a condition in which fluid collects in spaces within a person’s abdomen. She says he was prescribed medicines, which only worsened matters.
