The Women of Big Bazaar SOS, a union of Future Group s women employees, has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi s support in protecting their livelihood as Jeff Bezos-led Amazon and Kishore Biyani-led Future Group continue to be embroiled in a legal fracas.
This letter highlights the challenges that women employees of the group will have to face if Amazon continues to obstruct Future Group-RIL deal. Traders body AICPD and NGO Prahar in an open letter on Thursday asked Amazon to back off from blocking the Reliance-Future Group deal, alleging mall vendors and suppliers have become collateral damage in the current tussle between the companies. Around 6,000 Indian small vendors and suppliers have dues of Rs 6,000 crore (USD 800 million) from the Future Group. These dues are pending for payment since March 2020. The announcement of Future-Reliance deal in August 2020 had given us hope that our dues will be cleared soon, All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPD) and Public Response Against Helplessness and Action for Redressal (Prahar) said in the letter.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday barred a final ruling by a tribunal reviewing Future Group s $3.4 billion sale of retail assets until the top court hears objections from aggrieved partner Amazon.com Inc, three sources said.
Amazon appealed to the Supreme Court this month against Future Group s sale to market leader Reliance Industries , accusing its partner of violating contracts by agreeing to the sale.
The outcome of the tussle involving two of the world s richest men, Amazon s Jeff Bezos and Reliance s Mukesh Ambani, could reshape India s pandemic-hit shopping sector and decide if Amazon can blunt Reliance s dominance of retail.
