Southeast Missouri Barn Fire Kills 10 Horses at Riding Academy February 22, 2021
The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a barn fire that killed 10 horses in southeast Missouri.
The fire broke out at night on Feb. 18 at Fox Run Riding Academy in Cape Girardeau. The Southeast Missourian reported that damage was estimated at $500,000.
Workers were able to save 15 horses, KFVS reported.
East Cape Girardeau County Fire Chief Randy Leuder said when his team arrived, the whole left side of the barn was engulfed and parts had collapsed.
Icy conditions made fighting the fire difficult. Several local farmers helped put down cinder and salt to help fire trucks get to the site.
