NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in Maharashtra has seized over 2,000 kg of illegal plastic bags from Agricultural produce market committee (APMC) wholesale market on Thursday. This is the biggest such seizure in the past one year. Under municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar s anti-plastic drive, a civic team seized over 2,000 kg of plastic bags from L N Trading Company inside APMC market, in sector 19A. A penalty of Rs 15,000 has been slapped on the company in this regard, said a civic official. The Koparkhairane ward officials were carrying out an anti-plastic drive led by additional municipal commissioner Sujata Dhole.

The Thane range forest officer (RFO) Narendra Muthe, said, We had recently got reports about the presence of a large crocodile in the Belapur area. With the help of NGO WWA, a cage trap was laid in order to catch the crocodile. It will now be released in another safe location. Aditya Patil of Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) said, The rescued crocodile is 6.43 feet long and weighs 35kg.

Toyota Qualis car involved in the accident NAVI MUMBAI: One person was killed and four others were injured in two mishaps on Mumbai carriageway of expressway on Thursday morning. While a 21-year-old youth Rahul Dagane, a resident of Worli police camp was killed after the Toyota Qualis car in which he was travelling with his friend Siddhesh Patil (30), Andheri resident, who was at the wheels and has sustained injuries, crashed into an unidentified vehicle ahead of it. The incident occurred at 16 kms distance near Rasayani around 6am. PSI Vasant Kesarkar of HSP, Palaspe unit said, The IRB agency staff informed us about the accident near Rasayani. When we reached the spot around 6.15am, we found only the Qualis car with its front left side mangled as the vehicle it crashed into had sped away. From the extent of damage caused to car, the unidentified vehicle seems to be container trailer.
