After a long year, there s more clarity ahead for investors

After a long year, there s more clarity ahead for investors | Paul Fain Paul Fain After a long year, these spring days seem particularly sweet. Unlike 2020, when uncertainty was so widespread, we now see more clearly looking ahead. The recent government checks to consumers, plus the big infrastructure project on the drawing board, could boost the U.S. economy. The world economy is healing as well. Stocks of energy companies, banks, automakers, and leisure travel businesses are rising on expectations that improving economic conditions will unleash pent-up demand. Knox County sheriff cruiser stolen, leading to police chase and arrest

A Knox County detective had his unmarked police car stolen from him early Wednesday morning, leading to a police chase and an eventual arrest. Detective Jim Shipley of the Knox County Sheriff s Office approached a man he saw carrying several items across a parking lot of a closed business on Cross Park Drive shortly after midnight, according to an arrest warrant.  The man, Darrell Cooper, had an outstanding warrant for theft. Cooper ran toward Shipley s unmarked Dodge Charger cruiser when the detective approached him. The vehicle was running at the time, sheriff s office spokeswoman Kimberly Glenn told Knox News.  The two got in an altercation as Cooper attempted to drive away, dragging the detective beside the cruiser, according to the warrant. Glenn said the vehicle was disabled a short time later, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Cocaine Bear: Parachuting smuggler Andrew Thornton died in Knoxville

You ve probably seen the recent headlines about Cocaine Bear, the working title of a movie that ll tell the story of a bear who ate a bunch of cocaine and then died. If you assumed such a tale must have a Knoxville connection, well, you were right: A parachuting smuggler clad in combat fatigues, carrying several weapons and tied to a bag of cocaine  fell from the sky Sept. 11, 1985, and died just minutes from downtown. Elizabeth Banks has signed on to direct the Cocaine Bear film, which will be produced by The Lego Movie filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Variety reported last week. Few details about the project have been released, but the movie has been described as a character-driven thriller inspired by true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985.
