Trappers Lake Hike is A Moderate Hike
Western Colorado offers a plethora of amazing hikes. Some are extremely difficult, some would be considered moderate, while others are considered extremely easy. I wouldn t consider the Trappers Lake hike extremely difficult because it s not a climb, though there are plenty of ups and downs. It s also not an easy hike - because of the length and because of multiple stream crossings that must be navigated.
Trappers Lake is one of the more beautiful lake hikes you can do in western Colorado. In the shadows of the Flattops and nearby mountains, the hike takes you on a trail 7 miles around the lake, across streams, through meadows of wildflowers, and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife such a deer, moose, marmots, chipmunks, and bald eagles.

The flag currently flying at the summit of Mt. Garfield has reached the end of its life. Given the short lifespan of a flag at this location, those who maintain the site go through flags very quickly. The supply of replacements has been exhausted.

Four years ago, a group of dedicated people hiked up Mt. Garfield equipped with an amazing new flag pole and a new flag. Before long the flag was fluttering in the breeze. This effort was made just in time to celebrate Memorial Day 2017.
How You Watch the Annual Climb Up Independence Monument In 2021
The Mesa County Search and Rescue Technical Rescue Team is getting ready to raise the American Flag with the 31st annual climb up Independence Monument. Here s how you can be on hand to witness this awesome event.
Each year climbers make their way up to Western Colorado s Independence Monument. This year, a total of 15 people, consisting of ten Search and Rescue members and five guests, will make the climb.
