‘Nobody residing with a positive person can leave their residence’
Madurai Corporation has identified 18 streets in the city with three or more positive cases to undertake containment measures there.
Officials began barricading the streets on Thursday to restrict movement of residents.
City Health Officer P. Kumaraguruparan said the streets included Thirupalai, K. Pudur, K.K. Nagar, Kamarajar Salai, Arasaradi, Pasumalai, New Vilangudi, Karisalkulam, Nehru Nagar, Surya Nagar, Sammattipuram, Villapuram and South Gate.

Madurai has received 23,100 doses of Covishield A total of 178 health workers were vaccinated for COVID-19 on the second day until 5 p.m. at five centres across the district on Sunday.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the State-wide COVID-19 vaccination at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on Saturday. The vaccination is being carried out for health workers at five centres in the district - GRH, Melur Government Hospital, Tirumangalam GH, and Primary Health Centres at Kallandiri and Samayanallur. Each of these centres can administer the vaccine to a maximum of 100 beneficiaries in a day.

The construction of an integrated operation theatre complex at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), which was approved in 2016, is finally gaining momentum. This complex, which will have state-of-the-art operation theatres, will give a major infrastructure boost to GRH.
The Rs. 325-crore worth theatre complex is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The operation theatre complex will be constructed by demolishing a portion of the main building of the GRH which houses the Dean’s chamber.
