A plastic surgeon has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder a fellow surgeon who was found stabbed at his home.
Graeme Perks was knifed in the abdomen and chest after going to investigate an intruder at his home in Halam, Nottinghamshire.
The retired surgeon and father-of-four, 65, still has life threatening injuries and remains in hospital.
Plastic surgeon Jonathan Peter Brooks appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court today charged with attempting to murder Mr Perks, three counts of attempted arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a knife.
Police found Mr Perks with stab wounds and the ground floor of his £800,000 property had been covered with petrol, the court heard.

Parts of the medical community have spoken out after a highly-regarded retired surgeon was stabbed during a break-in at his home in Halam last week.
65-year-old Graeme Perks is continuing to receive hospital treatment after the alleged attack on January 14 in which he suffered puncture wounds to his abdomen and chest.
Dr Perks was head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust from 2011 to 2016. He has also been a president of The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

A 56-year-old plastic surgeon and former General Election agent has been charged with attempted murder and attempted arson with intent to endanger life.
It follows the stabbing of 65-year-old Graeme Perks, a retired plastic surgeon, who is still fighting for his life following a break-in at his home last week.

Mr Perks was wounded to the stomach and chest during the ordeal in Halam Hill, Halam, just before 4.15am on Thursday, January 14.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Queen s Medical Centre for surgery, where he still remains in a serious condition.
