Missouri State altered plans for its May commencement so graduates can celebrate the accomplishment in person and in a timely fashion. Nearly a year ago, colleges and universities in the Springfield area were struggling with the decision to postpone, cancel or dramatically pare down the annual celebrations. All those options were employed. MSU President Clif Smart recently sought permission from the Board of Governors to move its May meeting up. The committee meetings will take place Wednesday, May 12 with the full board meeting occurring the morning of Thursday, May. 13.

That s a big deal: once proposed constitutional amendments are approved by voters, the legislature can’t change them without asking voters first.
