The drive that made S. Prestley Blake and the Friendly’s chain he founded with his brother, Curtis, in the depths of the Great Depression a success didn’t waiver, even in Blake’s final weeks.
“Pres was always in command, right up until the last minute,” his wife of 38 years, Helen, said Friday. “The most dreaded words every morning were ‘I have an idea’.”
NMH reports five COVID-19 cases following return to campus

GILL Northfield Mount Hermon School has reported five recent positive cases of COVID-19 following phased return to campus.
According to Chief Advancement Officer Philip Hood, winter term classes resumed online following the winter break on Monday, Jan. 11. Students began to return to campus between Jan. 21 and Jan. 23, in planned phases.
“All students are still in a pod quarantine and will undergo three rounds of testing before in-person instruction is scheduled to resume on Feb. 8,” Hood said via email on Sunday. “Our first round of testing, conducted immediately after students returned to campus revealed two positive COVID-19 cases.”
The Maine Nordiques’ top line was a force Friday night.
Cannon Green, Stefan Owens and Makem Demers each scored a goal as the Nordiques defeated the Northeast Generals 4-3 in a North American Hockey League East Division game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.
Green also had two assist to finish the contest with three points, while Owens and Demers each had one assist.
“It was just a matter of time, those guys are doing everything the right way and they go about their business, day in and day out,” Maine Nordiques coach Nolan Howe said. “We see it in practice, and for them to be rewarded for their efforts, we certainly like to see it.”
