Motorcyclist dies in crash involving pedestrian who was slightly injured

Witness appeal after motorcyclist dies in collision A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a crash involving a pedestrian who was taken to hospital with minor injuries. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said officers received a report of a collision involving a motorbike and a pedestrian on Portobello Road, Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, shortly after after 4.40pm on Thursday. Officers and emergency services attended the scene but the rider of the motorbike, a 22-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are currently being supported by specialist officers. The pedestrian, a 41-year-old, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. An investigation was launched and officers are now appealing to the public for information.

South Shields: Motorcyclist injured in hit-and-run crash

A motorcyclist suffered a serious leg injury when he was hit by a hit and run driver A MOTORCYCLIST suffered a serious leg injury when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Northumbria Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses following the collision between an off-road motorbike and a Peugeot 206 on Benton Road, South Shields, shortly after 12.30pm on Wednesday. It was reported that the driver had left the scene without stopping. Emergency services attended and the 16-year-old rider of the motorbike was taken to hospital suffering from a serious leg injury. Sergeant Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: “This was a serious incident which could have had fatal consequences, but thankfully the rider managed to escape with a serious leg injury.
