Northbrook Court may be up for sale, possibly raising doubts about the massive renovations in progress, Crain s Chicago Business is reporting.
Barings, the mall s lender, has been interviewing brokers, the report says, citing people familiar with its plan. The mall s owner, Brookfield Properties, which also owns Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, Water Tower Place in Chicago and Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, stopped making mortgage payments months ago, according to Crain s.
Northbrook Court is in the process of a $250 million makeover approved two years ago by the village that includes a mix of retail and residential, but project was put on hold due to the pandemic, incoming Village President and current Trustee Kathryn Ciesla said in an interview leading up to the April 6 election.

A Northbrook resident died of COVID-19 in the past week, bringing total fatalities to 112 and cases to 2,818 in the village since the pandemic began a year ago.
Glenview has had 101 deaths and 3,868 cases, but no deaths in the past week, Cook County public health and medical examiner s offices reported.
Newly diagnosed cases totaled 33 in Northbrook and 68 in Glenview in the past week.
As of Tuesday, suburban Cook County had 234,363 cases and 4,572 deaths, according to the state. In Chicago, there have been 249,783 cases and 4,959 deaths.
There have been 517,895 COVID-19 cases across suburban Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties as of Tuesday. That s 42.7% of the state s total, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been 8,654 deaths in the suburbs, which is 41.3% of all COVID-19 deaths in Illinois.
District 27 approves Michigan administrator as its new superintendent Dr. John Dieter

The Northbrook School District 27 Board of Education on March 3 unanimously approved Dr. John Dieter as its next superintendent.
Dieter will officially start on July 1. Hired after a national search process, he will succeed Dr. David Kroeze, who will retire June 30 after nearly three decades of leading the district.
Dieter most recently served 10 years as superintendent of DeWitt Public Schools in DeWitt, Michigan.
Before serving at DeWitt, Dieter was principal six years for Belding Area Schools and spent two years as an assistant at Iona Public Schools, both in Michigan. He also has six years of classroom teaching experience.
