On Friday, the NYDOH released updated guidance that would allow schools to reduce social distancing between students in the classroom from six to three feet with certain protocols in place. “Following the updated guidance from the CDC, we have been expecting the change in social distancing and have been working with staff and parents to plan for changes this school year,” said Potsdam Central School Superintendent Joann Chambers.

Norwood-Norfolk superintendent says keeping school open will save lives

Thursday, December 17, 2020 - 5:15 pm BY MATT LINDSEY North Country This Week NORWOOD Norwood-Norfolk Central School Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said being able to stay open for in-person instruction not only benefits the academic and social lives of students, but it is saving lives. Cruikshank discussed the district COVID-19 testing plan. St. Lawrence County schools will be required to test 20% of students and staff if the region enters a “Yellow Zone” due to a COVID outbreak. Local districts are sending home permission slips to parents that seek authorization for students to be tested for COVID-19 at school. Earlier this fall the state started identifying regions where COVID infections were rising. Regions are broken up into three colors, with more severe restrictions enforced depending on the level of outbreak.
