Just 7 minutes ago, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck near East Foothills, Santa Clara County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday 7 January 2021 at 3:44 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5.6 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.

Just 14 minutes ago, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Coquimbo, Provincia de Elqui, Coquimbo Region, Chile. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Thursday 7 January 2021 at 3:19 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 30 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Coquimbo (pop. 161,300) located 31 km from the epicenter, and La Serena (pop. 154,500) 32 km away.
