The City of Edinburgh Council has submitted plans for a development designed to bring young and old people together.
The council plans to build what it describes as an “intergenerational” building in the Powderhall area, north of the city, which will include an early learning and childcare centre on the lower floors of a four-storey building, and 27 accessible council homes for adults over the age of 55, along with health and wellbeing facilities for older residents and a private roof terrace above.
The site is situated on a former bowling green and waste-transfer depot between Broughton Road and Warriston Road. It will be part of a wider regeneration of the Powderhall area, which was named after a historic gunpowder factory and was previously known for its greyhound racing track Powderhall Stadium.
