Memorial Health Systems expects to complete distributing its first round of COVID-19 vaccine within the next three weeks after receiving more than 6,000 doses since Dec. 16.
About 524 Passavant Area Hospital staff members have received the vaccination, along with 1,298 at Memorial Medical Center, 866 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, 260 at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln and 141 at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

MARIETTA Even as the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on health systems and their workforce across the country, Memorial Health Systems in Marietta and its employees have continued to go beyond the call of duty to support local communities, according to Jennifer Offenberger, associate vice president of Service Excellence.
This year, Memorial Health System and employees at Sistersville General Hospital sponsored gifts for 23 children from families across Sistersville, Middlebourne, Paden City and St. Marys, Offenberger said.

MIAMI – As Florida distributes COVID-19 vaccines this week, hospitals across South Florida are reporting they are using the majority of intensive care beds that are available for COVID-19 patients.
In Broward, hospitals have 4,508 beds and there were 846 available leaving the area with a 15.8% capacity. In Miami-Dade, hospitals have 6,954 beds and there were 1,693 available leaving the area with a 19.5% capacity.
Dr. Andrew Pastewski is among the physicians in South Florida who are warning that the holiday season gatherings will be challenging hospital capacity. They are asking the community to protect those who are most vulnerable.

Passavant Area Hospital received 440 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday afternoon and is ready to administer them to staff starting as early as today.
“This is quite the historic day in our history,” Jennifer Harris, Memorial Health Systems planning section chief, said Wednesday during a new conference. “We just received our shipment about an hour ago.”
The doses arrived thawed, giving the hospital five days in which to administer them.
“It has to be used up within one hour of being drawn from the vial,” Harris said, adding that one vial of the Pfizer vaccine contains five doses.
