The Bark River Railroad Depot was built in 1892 by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Company. The photo at left was taken looking east. The boardwalk shown was built to accommodate passengers, and the passenger train ran through the late 1960s. This year marks the sesquicentennial, 150th anniversary, for Bark River. There will be a history room set up at the Bark River Senior Center this coming 4th of July weekend for the public to visit. An extended celebration will continue in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At right, a float from Bark Riverâs centennial celebration in 1971 is shown. The float, with missiles and cannon, was built by Tim St Peter of Escanaba, who was then the vice commander of the Bark River American Legion. The trailer was pulled by small, gray ponies, provided by Russell Crydermen of Bark River. This year will mark Bark Riverâs 150th anniversary.

The annual Valentine social for the missions at St. Patrickâs School was held Monday, Feb. 15, 1960. The afternoon brought together royalty for the crowning of the king and queen of the festival by their principal, Sister M. Athanasius, O.P.
