When central Ohio was a bit more fun
On the basis of the Eagle-Gazette’s June 26, 1936 movie page I would submit that our grandparents had lots more fun than we did. The Gold Cliff Chateau, near Circleville, was a dance club featuring clarinetist Rudy Bundy and his band.
And at Buckeye Lake you could head down to the Lake Breeze Pier to hear Chick Farrell’s band while dining on the regional delicacies listed (read ‘em) in their ad. The fine old place burned in 1966 along with a considerable portion of the Lake’s other amusements. Have a look at Mike Harden’s article here: https://www.dispatch.com/article/20070729/news/307299792
