Don Henley was one of the founding members of the Eagles, but he was actually a veteran of Los Angeles burgeoning country-rock scene years before that group got off the ground. Henley previously played in a band called Shiloh and Kenny Rogers played a critical role in introducing his talents to the world.
Shiloh were an up-and-coming band that played around the music scene in Texas, and they met Rogers in 1968 in a chance encounter in a clothing store in Dallas that all of the cool local musicians hung out at. Rogers country solo career was still years away, but he was already a star as the lead singer and bass player in the First Edition, who scored a string of late- 60s and early- 70s hits including Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In), Ruby, Don t Take Your Love to Town, Something s Burning and more.
ANGOLA â When Charrissa Rager looks around the newly expanded Lakeside Meats, she beams, just beams.
The former Hargerâs Meats, then Lakeside Farm Market and now Lakeside Meats, has doubled in size at its location at 1920 W. C.R. 200N, located between Crooked Lake and Lake James.
When Tasty Pizza moved out of the strip center where Lakeside now has about half of the space, Rager was eager to make the move to expand.
âI wanted to move into that area but I wanted to do it when this space was free,â she said.
Starting late last year, Charrissa and Trent Rager started their expansion that would take the store from 2,000 to 4,000-square-feet thatâs in a busy location by the lakes.

The Bark River Railroad Depot was built in 1892 by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Company. The photo at left was taken looking east. The boardwalk shown was built to accommodate passengers, and the passenger train ran through the late 1960s. This year marks the sesquicentennial, 150th anniversary, for Bark River. There will be a history room set up at the Bark River Senior Center this coming 4th of July weekend for the public to visit. An extended celebration will continue in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
