Harold Hardin
Harold Clifford Hardin, 85, passed away February 15th, 2021, at Monument Health Rapid City in South Dakota. He was born May 2nd, 1935, at the family homestead in Gordon Nebraska to Clifford and Doris (Reitz) Hardin. He was the oldest of five children.
Harold attended school in Rushville, Nebraska and left during his senior year. He joined the Army January 28th, 1954 and was discharged January 27th, 1956. While in the Army he was an air defense artilleryman at the Presidio of San Francisco, California.
Harold was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Cushing February 24th, 1955 in Salem Oregon. To this union they had four children, Charles (Rick), Sharon, Jodi, and Cory. After Betty passed away, he married Marcia (Carter) Hardin on November 28th, 1986 at the Hot Springs VA Chapel.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Authorities have identified a Rapid City man as the victim in a December 24th fatal shooting.
31-year-old Vernall Marshall was shot and killed last Thursday night in the 1000 block of Silverleaf Avenue in Rapid City.
According to Chief Don Hedrick of the Rapid City Police Dept., police responded to a 911 call regarding gunshots in the area just after 11 p.m. When they arrived, police found Marshall in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Hedrick says “lifesaving measures were taken”, but the man was later pronounced dead at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
RCPD spokesperson Brendyn Medina says police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Custer healthcare workers receive Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
Healthcare workers at the Custer Hospital/Clinic hope that by getting the vaccine, it will help ease fear and skepticism surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine.

CUSTER, S.D. Added comfort and new opportunities. According to local healthcare workers, it’s what the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine provides for communities in the Black Hills and around the country.
A total of 2,300 doses of Moderna’s vaccine arrived at Monument Health Rapid City on Monday night, awaiting distribution to local hospitals in Custer and Spearfish while Sturgis, Hot Springs (Fall River Health Services), Philip and Martin (Bennett County Hospital and Nursing Home) received 100 doses.
COVID-19 vaccine distribution will be challenging in South Dakota
South Dakota will soon have thousands of the first round of new COVID-19 vaccines to distribute to front-line healthcare workers as part of what many see as the world’s next steps toward an end to the deadly pandemic.

Ensuring widespread distribution, usage and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine in South Dakota will be challenging, health experts say, due to the rural nature of the state, the difficulty in storing and distributing doses of the vaccine and concerns that some people will be reluctant to be vaccinated.
