[co-author: Mary Lam] Introduction In light of the development of technology and the widespread use of internet to transmit data, personal data protection has become a hot topic nowadays as people became more aware of their right to privacy. This article aims to provide a general introduction to the relevant legal requirements regarding data protection in China, particularly in the context of collecting, processing and storing personal data. This article also covers some points to note when transferring personal data to overseas recipients outside China, including through storing personal data in a system with overseas network servers (“ Cross-border Transmission of Personal Data”).

30 Apr in 12:20 China officially adopted a law against food waste, banning binge-eating videos and excessive leftovers, which observers said will foster a resource-conserving and environmentally-friendly society. The law was officially approved by the Standing Committee of the National People s Congress (NPC) on Thursday, Global Times reported. Observers noted that adoption of the legislation against food waste does not imply that China is facing an immediate food shortage risk, but it is a far-sighted move for food security as the country seeks to stabilize domestic grain output and ensure supply, facing increasing domestic demand for grain due to population growth and external uncertainties.
