Government to announce covid-19 vaccine roll out today LISTEN Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Government barring any unforeseen circumstances, will formally announce today the rollout of the vaccination programme for the country, Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said. So far the government said it had ordered about 355,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from Europe and it was expected to be available in the country by the middle of March this year to cover about 40 million Ghanaians. The nominee, taking his turn at the public vetting of the Appointments Committee of Parliament yesterday, indicated that the rollout programme would provide all the details to inform Ghanaians ahead of the vaccination exercise.

Govt to open one-stop shop for job seekers – Minister-designate February 18, 2021 Government is to open job centres in all districts across the country to assist job seekers in their quest for decent employment, the Minister-designate for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has disclosed.  The centres, he told the Appointments Committee of Parliament, on Wednesday, would be a one-stop shop where job seekers would meet their potential employers. According to him, the government has reintroduced the labour office concept, where job seekers submit their credentials and their would-be employers are expected to consider when hiring.  “We have opened eight of these labour offices and in the process of adding 20 more. It is our wish that we will be able to cover every district of the country,” he said.

Retirement Age Debate: Experts Express Varied Views

  Four labour experts have waded into the debate on the extension of the retirement age with divergent positions. The experts are the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Employers Association, Mr Alex Frimpong, who welcomed the suggestion for the extension;  labour consultants Mr Austin Gamey and Mr  Senyo Adjabeng, who maintained that any such decision would be counterproductive, and the Director of the Labour Research Institute of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo, who sought to handle the issue with tact and diplomacy. When he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament (ACP) last Wednesday,  the Minister designate for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, threw his weight behind any plan to extend the compulsory retirement age of public workers to ensure the sustainability of the national pension scheme.
