The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta has said the government of President Akufo-Addo is committed to settling arrears owed road contractors in the country and will definitely fulfill its obligation towards them.
Kwasi Amoako-Atta made the statement in response to a question on delayed payments to contractors when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.
He said the government has paid a total of GHc 10 billion to road contractors over the last three to four years but more effort ought to be made to clear the remaining arrears.
Kwasi Amoako-Atta said the government s main focus within the next four years in the road sector will be on the construction of interchanges and dualization of major roads in the country such as the Accra-Takoradi road.

The Minister designate for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has said the second administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will concentrate on the dualisation of all major roads across the country to significantly curb the carnage on those roads.
He said, for instance, that already work on the Accra-Kumasi highway project was ongoing, being executed by the China Water Company, while work on the Accra-Takoradi highway was also on course.
He said the second area where the administration would concentrate would be the construction of six interchanges, including the four-tier Pokuase Interchange, all of which were currently ongoing simultaneously in the country.
