Indifferent Dame not suitable for AG slot – Menzgolders petition Appointments C ttee

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) has petitioned the Appointments Committee of Parliament to reject the minister-designate of Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Godfred Dame. According to the petition co-signed by CACM Chairman Isaac Nyarko and Secretary Samuel Odartey on 8 February 2021, Mr Dame “is not suitable” for the position.  The group indicated that their petition against Mr Dame’s appointment is premised, among many others, on the fact that “The future principal legal adviser to the Government cannot be indifferent; inactive and non-forceful in communicating to the government what public interest looks like if over 2 million Ghanaian nationals (who invested well over 100 million dollars into Menzgold) have had criminal financial acts committed against them by identifiable perpetrators.

Appointments Committee Begins Ministerial Vetting Today

The vetting of persons nominated for ministerial positions begins today, with the Minister-designate for Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, and the Minister-designate for National Security, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament (ACP). The decision to vet these two nominees ahead of the other 33 nominated for various positions is to ensure that the government becomes functional to carry out the business of state. “Priority will be given to some nominees, particularly for Health, because of the COVID-19 situation in the country, followed by those of National Security and Finance,” the Minority Leader and Ranking member of the ACP, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, had earlier explained.

I ll Vote Against Kan-Dapaah If Not Given Handing Over Notes - Ayariga

Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has threatened to vote against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees for National Security and Health, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah and Mr Kweku Agyeman-Manu, respectively, if he is not given their handing over notes.  In a statement issued on Wednesday, 10 February 2020, the day scheduled for the vetting of the two nominees by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Mr Ayariga said: “Given that I have not received the Handing Over Notes, despite several efforts on my part, I hereby announce my decision to vote against the two nominees appearing before us today, unless I am given hard or electronic copies of the Handing Over Notes and their vetting is rescheduled to 48 hours after receipt of the Handing Over Notes”.
