Manitoba is tightening its borders and ordering all travellers to self-isolate for two weeks, over concerns they may bring new, and more transmissible, coronavirus variants across provincial lines.
At a hastily called news conference Tuesday, Premier Brian Pallister announced changes to public health orders that require anyone who enters Manitoba to self-isolate for 14 days. The move will take effect Friday.
It will include travellers from Western Canada, the northern territories and west of Terrace Bay, Ont. who are not required to self-isolate under current health orders.

For the second time this month, new cases of COVID-19 identified dipped below 100, public health officials reported on Tuesday.
There were 94 new cases identified in Tuesday’s bulletin, two more than the 92 that were announced on Jan. 12. Prior to that, there hadn’t been a double-digit new case count for a single day since the middle of October.

Of the new cases, 41 were found in Winnipeg while the hard-hit Northern Health region had an additional 36 new infections. Fifteen more cases were found in the Prairie Mountain Health region and two in Southern Health. Interlake-Eastern, meanwhile, recorded a shutout with zero new cases.
