Women to face trial over knife-attack at house in Limerick town

TWO women are to stand trial at the circuit court after they were charged in relation to an aggravated burglary during which another woman was allegedly slashed across the face.
Mary Ellen Daly, 30, of Lisheen Park, Patrickswell and Nora Harty, 53, also of Lisheen Park appeared before Newcastle West District Court earlier this week.
Both are charged with aggravated burglary relating to an incident which occurred at a house at Ballingrane, Rathkeale on December 10, 2019.
It is alleged that a woman, in her 50s, was injured and had to undergo plastic surgery following an altercation at her home which was connected to two earlier incidents in Limerick city and in Adare.

A Limerick TD has called for the Defence Forces to assist gardaí in the town of Rathkeale following a number of alleged incidents in the town over the recent festive holidays.
The call, made by Independent TD Richard O’Donoghue, came as gardaí began an investigation into a bare-knuckle fight which occurred in the town last Monday.

FIRST it was videos of bare-chested men hugging at house parties in Rathkeale, now it s footage of half naked men fighting.
Clips of bare-knuckle boxing in the town square have been circulated on social media in recent days. They show a fight taking place between two bare-chested men squaring up to each other as dozens watch on.
A garda spokesperson said officers responded to reports of an assault in Rathkeale town square on Monday, January 4. One male, aged in his forties, was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for his injuries and has since been released and returned home. One male has been arrested and charged in relation and is due to appear before Newcastle West District Court on January 8, said the garda spokesperson.
