NEWTON, Texas The second of two men wanted by in connection with an ATM theft at a Burkeville bank late last month has been caught in Louisiana.

Leo Burt Mitchell, Jr., was arrested Friday morning in Mansfield, Louisiana according to a news release from the Newton County Sheriff s Office.
Mitchell is suspected to have been involved with the attempted theft of an ATM machine at the Sabine State Bank in Burkeville on April 26, 2021, along with Billy Adams who is already in custody.

BURKEVILLE, Texas (KTRE) - An ATM at a Burkeville bank has once again been targeted by would-be thieves.
According to information from the Newton County Sheriff’s office, on Sunday at 5:16 a.m. the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an activated alarm on the ATM at Sabine State Bank located on Highway 63 East in Burkeville.
The statement said deputies arrived on the scene at 5:30 a.m. and observed the machine’s doors were standing open. A search of the immediate area located a grey, 2006 year model 1-ton Ford F-350 pickup parked on the east side of the roadway that was still running. It was found about a quarter-mile east of the bank on the south side of Highway 63.

COVINGTON, Ga. - Deputies in Newton County are searching for a 20-year-old accused of shooting a 70-year-old woman.
Officials tell FOX 5 the shooting happened Monday night at a home off Heaton Place Trail in Covington.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Isaiah McKester Gilbert, fled in a blue Dodge Charger.
Warrants for three counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and one count of criminal damage to property have been issued for his arrest.
The Newton County Sheriffâs Office (NCSO) answered 68 calls to service last week from April 26th to May 2nd, 2021. We currently have 23 inmates in the following Jails, 9 housed in Newton, 13 housed in Jasper and 1 in Polk County. Last week there were 9 individuals booked into the Newton Jail.
At 0540 hours, the Newton County Sheriffâs Office received a call of a theft of an ATM machine in Burkeville. A passing motorist observed a small compact vehicle attempt to pull the ATM machine at the Sabine State Bank off it stand. They damaged the ATM and fled the parking lot on Hwy 63 and turned north on FM 692 toward Hwy 63. The vehicle was occupied by two white males one wearing a ski mask, and the other was observed without a mask. The caller advised that the vehicle came to a stop on a bridge pass CR 2121. They exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods.
