Newton sheriff seeking suspects in gaming machines break-ins
COVINGTON, Ga. Newton County sheriff s investigators are asking the public s help in locating two men who allegedly broke into gaming machines at a Brown Bridge Road gas station in Newton County.
Those with information are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, and can remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
The suspects reportedly entered the 76 station at 11408 Brown Bridge Road Saturday and broke into the machines, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
One suspect, who walks with a limp, was driving a red car that was possibly a Kia Optima with chrome wheels.
KENTLAND — A Goodland teen passed away from his injuries suffered during a fiery two-vehicle crash on US 41 at CR 1700S (1 mile south of Kentland) Feb. 3.

Trespassing calls are still on the rise. There were several suspicious vehicle and activity reports regarding unknown individuals driving around looking into unoccupied homes. These reports were received from Deweyville, Burkeville, Old Salem, Bon Weir, Trout Creek and Call this week. This is a countywide issue that we are focused on. Extra patrols have been assigned and we will continue to keep watch on these areas.
On Monday, we had our K9 evaluated by a K9 Trainer and he checked out okay. We are currently in the process of selecting a K9 Deputy and revitalizing our K9 Program. We are currently looking to fill two (2) opening in Patrol and we are always accepting applications.
Two killed in head-on collision in Newton County
COVINGTON, Ga. Two people were killed recently when the vehicles they were driving struck each other head-on in southwest Newton County.
Coile Anderson, 82, of Conyers, and Tracy Champion, 51, of Sparta, Georgia, were killed in the two-vehicle crash on Georgia Hwy. 212 at Coldwater Drive Friday, Jan. 22, said Caitlin Jett, spokeswoman for the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Anderson was driving his vehicle southbound on Hwy. 212 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Champion between the hours of 10:55 and 11:03 a.m., Jett said.
Following impact, both vehicles came to an uncontrollable halt in a ditch off Hwy. 212, Jett said.
