NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Three deputies with the Newberry County Sheriffâs Office have received 2021 South Carolina Sheriffâs Association Medals of Valor.
Lieutenant Michael Claytor, Lieutenant Thomas Miller, and Sergeant Cory Cook were rewarded for their actions and conduct during extreme life-threatening situations while on the job.
On the night of January 15, 2020, NCSO, the Newberry City Police Department and SLED partnered up to patrol an area that had been linked to several shootings and gang-related activities.

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. The Newberry County Sheriff s Office says a missing Newberry County man has been found safe.
Officers say Shaquan Jashar Chandler, 20, was located Thursday afternoon. They did not provide additional details on his discovery.
He had been reported missing after last being seen at his home in Newberry, around midnight Thursday, April 29.
Chandler s vehicle was found parked and unattended approximately three miles away, at Waites Snack Bar at the intersection of Hwy 176 and Livingston Road in Pomeria.
The sheriff s department thanked the public for their help in finding him.

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A man is dead after a standoff with deputies early Sunday morning in Newberry County. However, deputies said none of them fired their weapons.
Officials were called two times about the man, who had been driving an SUV on a wheel rim on Interstate 26 around 4:30 a.m. Sparks from the wheel on the pavement alerted another driver, who called 911.
