Man accused of killing Newport News officer sentenced to 10 years on firearm, drug charges

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. The man who was convicted of charges related to a deadly traffic stop incident that killed a Newport News officer last year will spend 10 years behind bars.
Vernon Green II, 38, was sentenced Wednesday for federal firearm and drug charges. He was pleaded guilty in October 2020 to possession of a firearm and felony possession of a controlled substance.
