The $3.9 million construction project is being completed by Plavchak Construction Co., Inc. of Elizabeth.

Work will feature ADA-accessible walkways that wind through the park’s lawns to link the pieces, along with LED lighting and native landscaping. Nearly 300 trees, more than 100 shrubs and thousands of perennials will be planted.
Reconfigured driveways and parking areas will be designed with principles of green engineering and rain gardens that help absorb stormwater runoff.
Portions of the existing asphalt roads will be widened and resurfaced.
Work is expected to last through the end of the year.
“By placing the bulk of these pieces of art at center stage, the public has more opportunity to engage with this art than ever before,” county Executive Rich Fitzgerald said.

About $400,000 in funding for the department was included in the county’s 2021 budget.
Mercatoris has held a number of positions related to early childhood education, including for Pennsylvania’s Office of Child Development and Early Learning and with the Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children. She is a resident of Ben Avon.

A day after Gov. Tom Wolf announced the imminent removal of covid restrictions in Pennsylvania, Allegheny County officials said it was right move.
“That’s really good news as we start to get back to normal,” County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said at a virtual news conference. “Everybody has been eligible for the last three weeks to get a vaccine, so we still encourage you to do that.”
Fitzgerald had previously predicted mask mandates would be eased by June 1. Under Wolf’s directive, Pennsylvania’s mandate won’t be lifted until 70% of the population has been vaccinated – but Fitzgerald said he’s still confident people can go maskless by the summer, given the county’s current progress with vaccinations.
