Launching the recruitment drive today (May 10), the AM100 car retail group’s divisional aftersales director, Matthew Timmons, described the opportunities on offer as “is an amazing prospect for a significant number of young people”. Potential technicians, service advisors and parts advisors are among the roles being recruited for at the Farnell JLR sites, with training set to be delivered to successful candidates on-the-job and via classroom-based training centred on five regionalised state-of-the-art JLR Training Academies.

One in five vehicles yet to be retested after MOT extension

Even the very last cars to receive an extension have now passed their extended expiry date, yet some 1.86 million of these vehicles still have not had a new MOT, says Kwik Fit. Analysis of the latest data reveals that these 1.86 million vehicles have not had a valid MOT for an average of 3.4 months. The statistics are particularly troubling when assessing the MOT failure rate of those cars that have been brought in for MOTs during this period.

Garages risk losing their certificates to offer MOTs if they miss the DVSA deadline, which could have serious consequences on income and road safety, said IMI chief executive, Steve Nash. “Our concern right now is that a number of MOT technicians have been stuck between a rock and a hard place,” said Nash. “The increased volumes they faced because of the 2020 MOT extension have made it difficult for them to find the time to complete their training and assessment.

IMI Diversity Taskforce to help automotive nurture a more diverse workforce

AM Magazine columnist Professor Jim Saker, the newly-appointed president of the IMI, is to lead the new Taskforce to investigate, research and provide recommendations on how to improve the ‘effectiveness’ of automotive businesses by becoming a ‘more attractive employment opportunity’. The Taskforce will have a focus on attracting the BAME community to the sector, helping the automotive sector become a workplace that embraces and encourages individuals facing physical and neuro disabilities and addressing gender diversity, said the IMI.

SMH Fleet Solutions and Northgate bolster EV training

SMH Fleet Solutions has partnered with RWC, a training provider based in Milton Keynes, to deliver the learning and development programme. The move comes as the company is increasing EV charging capability across its sites.
