The deputy chief executive, Dylan Williams MORE details have been revealed on Anglesey Council’s masterplan to try to achieve carbon neutrality within a decade. Last September, the authority formally declared a climate emergency after backing a motion urging the need for action. On the back of that vote, it has endeavoured to work towards a carbon neutral public sector by 2030, which includes working with other councils on a nationwide basis, with an initial budget of between £400,000 and £600,000 being mooted. Labour councillor John Arwel Roberts’ successful motion asked the council to follow the Welsh Government’s lead, which declared such an emergency in 2019, while committing to helping other sections of the economy move away from fossil fuels.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is calling for urgent funding and a national workforce development strategy from the Government if there are to be enough trained technicians to support a 2030 ban on new diesel, petrol and hybrid vehicles.
The IMI said just 5% of current garages and dealerships are appropriately qualified to work on electric vehicles (EVs).
IMI chief executive Steve Nash and newly-appointed president Jim Saker both made the additionally important point that without the proper training, servicing electric vehicles risks “serious injury or death”.
In an open letter sent to the Government, Nash (pictured) and Saker said: “We urgently need a concerted, ongoing workforce development strategy.

Sytner Group is launching a new competition aimed at supporting teachers and students during ‘Lockdown 3’ in partnership with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
As part of the competition, dubbed Driven by Design, entrants aged 11 to 16 will be required to design their own concept car and create an accompanying marketing campaign.
The competition has been designed in line with the national curriculum and aims to help entrants develop and test their skills in project management, sales and marketing, market research and design.
