The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday announced that students who qualify for the Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost and Works Accountant (ICWA) exams will be treated equivalent to postgraduate degree holders.
The decision has been made at the request of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The announcement was made on the official Twitter handle of ICAI.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized Company Secretary Qualification as equivalent to Post Graduate Degree based on representations submitted by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
Nagendra D Rao, President, The ICSI, said in a statement: “This recognition will open up another world of opportunities for Company Secretaries. Such recognitions reaffirm the fact that with the increasing focus on good governance, the demand for Company Secretaries, as skilled professionals, is both ubiquitous and inevitable”.
This recognition will leverage the Company Secretary Profession across the globe, giving the members of the Institute an opportunity to pursue Ph.D. in Commerce and Allied Disciplines, the statement added.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cochin University of Science and Technology for academic collaboration in which three top students from the School of Legal Studies of the University will be bestowed with the ICSI Signature Gold Award to enable them to pursue a course offered by the institute free of cost.
The MoU also enables the exchange of faculty members between the university and ICSI and enable them to attend national and international seminars organised under the aegis of both the institutions, said C.S. Nagendra D. Rao, president of the institute, here at a press conference. ICSI students will have the opportunity also to utilise the Cusat library.
