The Labour Party’s relationship with the NHS is a complicated and, at times, paradoxical one.
No chance is missed by the party to proclaim itself the founder of this most beloved institution. And every four years or so, as predictable as the Olympics opening ceremony in a non-Covid year, Labour unveils its latest “The Tories will privatise the NHS” scare story during an election campaign. I don’t know about you, but I always feel that the night before Tory NHS Privatisation Day is even more exciting and magical than the day itself.
