Kaduna NLC begins warning strike May 16

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State Council, has resolved to down tools for five days from Sunday, May 16, as proposed by the national secretariat, to serve as warning for the sack of over 4,000 workers in the state. In a statement distributed to journalists in Kaduna yesterday, the Chairperson of Kaduna NLC, Ayuba Suleiman, and the Secretary, Christiana Bawa, noted that the decision was the outcome of an emergency meeting with the national headquarters, in Kaduna recently. They disclosed that the total withdrawal of services would commence midnight of Sunday, May 16, 2021. x According to the statement, the Kaduna State Government did not follow due process in the recent disengagement of the workers from the Local Government Service, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Primary Health Care Agency.

The Chairman of the council, Mr Ayuba Suleiman made this known in a statement on Monday in Kaduna, NAN reports. “NLC Kaduna council has resolved to ground all activities for five days as proposed by the National Headquarters to serve as a warning strike for the sacking of over 4000 workers in the state. “Total withdrawal of services will begin on Sunday, May 16, by 12:00a.m,” the statement said.

Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, while declaring open the workshop in Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday, said that the focus was to improve methodology for teaching of mathematics and science subjects in public schools. SUBEB organised the workshop with the theme; “Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education”  in conjunction with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). Akinwumi said that science and mathematics was fundamental courses that should be handled with tenacity of purpose.
