Court restrains Edo NUT from embarking on strike

TODAY Nigeria Union of Teachers The National Industrial Court in Benin, on Monday, restrained the Edo wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) from proceeding on any strike in primary schools across the state. Justice Abiola Adewemimo gave the order after listening to the arguments by the state Solicitor-General, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN). Newsmen report that the state government and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) are the applicants in the case, with suit number: NICN/BEN/04/2021. The defendants in the suit are the NUT Chairman in the state, Mr Pius Okhuleliegbe and the state Assistant Secretary- General, Moni Itua, for themselves and on behalf of the members of the union.

The Edo State Government on Monday secured the restraining order from the National Industrial Court in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The teachers are on an indefinite strike over what they described as “the state government’s failure to meet its 10-point age-long demands.”

Edo primary school teachers defy Obaseki s directive on school resumption

By Ozioruva Aliu PRIMARY school teachers in Edo state Monday defied the state government directive to resume schools today as they stayed away on the directive of state chapter of Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT). A visit to some public primary schools across the state showed that there were no academic activities. But some staff of the local government education authority and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) were sighted addressing pupils in some schools. In Ogbe Primary school, the gate of the school was initially shut and some pupils were loitering around the area until men of the Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) came and forced the gate open to allow pupils into the empty premises. The pupils present about twenty were led to a classroom by an official said to have come from the local government education authority .

Breaking News | Osun assures pensioners of commitment to improved welfare

Akinwale Aboluwade  Efforts are ongoing by the Osun State Government to ensure increased welfare of pensioners in the state, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has said. Oyebamji spoke during a meeting with the representatives of the retired Civil Servants at the state secretariat, Abere, Osogbo. The commissioner enjoined the old citizens to keep faith in the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola-led government, stressing that the governor recognised the value of the meritorious service that the pensioners had rendered during the most active period of their lives. Hs stressed that the state government had no reason whatsoever to make them pass through any form of hardship.
