Bemidji resident reappointed to state council
Several appointments to state committees were made by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz last week, including one Bemidji resident being selected.

BEMIDJI Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan announced several appointments to state councils last week.
According to a release, the governor s office made appointments to the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board, the Capitol Art Exhibit Advisory Committee, the State Capitol Preservation Commission and the Council on Disability. For the latter, David Johnson of Bemidji was reappointed to the council.

Swamped with inquiries about building on Capitol grounds monuments from groups ranging from PETA to Flying Spaghetti Monster advocates, the State Capitol Preservation Commission
The Commission said it had been swamped with requests from groups including Hindus, Satanists and Church of the Dude.
In October 2015, workers removed the Ten Commandments monument from state Capitol grounds after the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the privately funded monument was religious in nature.
