‘Court cannot leave anything to chance when the State is on the brink of a precipice’ A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday directed the State government, State Police Chief, and district electoral officers to ensure that no social or political gatherings, meetings, or processions of any kind, celebratory or otherwise, take place from May 1 to 4 in the State, in violation of the COVID-19 protocol as well as the government and Election Commission orders.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has issued Covid guidelines to be followed on counting day on May 2. District Election Officers (District Collectors) have been designated as Nodal Officers who will ensure that counting centres comply with Covid protocol. They will be assisted by Nodal Health Officers.
Candidates or counting agents will not be allowed entry into the centres unless they undergo RT-PCR test 48 hours prior to the counting day or produce Rapid Antigen negative test result. Those who have received two doses of the Covid vaccine will also be allowed entry. District Election Officers have been asked to make arrangements for RT-PCR or rapid antigen tests for candidates and counting agents.

ASCI seeks modification or withdrawal of advertisement by May 4
Two advertisements – one being featured on television channels about the “anti-viral properties” of a particular brand of shirts, vests and briefs, and another published in prominent Malayalam newspapers recently on an allergy detection camp – have drawn criticism from public health activists for their misleading claims.
While the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has sought suitable modification or withdrawal of the ‘MCR antiviral shirts’ advertisements by May 4, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission has filed a case against the second one based on a complaint.

‘Case against ED official was an abuse of the process of law’
The State Crime Branch, according to Enforcement Directorate (ED), has created an unprecedented crisis by booking an FIR against the official of the ED.
The ED has raised serious allegations against the Crime Branch in a rejoinder filed before the Kerala High Court in the case filed by the ED Deputy Director P. Radhakrishnan seeking to quash the FIR registered against him.
Referring to a reported complaint of Sandeep Nair, an accused in the diplomatic channel gold smuggling case, that the ED had forced him to name several prominent persons in the case, the agency said the petition to the Ernakulam District and Sessions Judge was leaked to the media and circulated through some WhatsApp groups with ulterior motives.
