New York Attorney General  Letitia James has moved to take legal action against two notorious conspiracists who used threatening robocalls to target and suppress Black voters. According to a press release provided to theGrio, approximately 5,500 New Yorkers were subjected to discriminatory and harassing robocalls ahead of the 2020 election. James filed a request to intervene in a federal court proceeding against two conspiracy theorists over their voter suppression efforts. An investigation conducted by the Office of the Attorney General found that Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman hid behind a sham organization, “Project 1599,” and violated state and federal laws by orchestrating robocalls to threaten and harass Black communities.

NY Attorney General investigating baby food companies for toxic metal

(WHCU) State Attorney General Letitia James has launched a probe into several baby food manufacturers because of reports of high levels of toxic metals found in infant rice cereal products.  James has requested information from the companies that make Gerber, Beech-Nut, Earth’s Best Organic, and HappyBABY brands to examine whether the rice cereal products sold in New York contain arsenic at levels exceeding the legal maximum under the law. The request for information also covers the companies’ practices, policies, and standards for testing for inorganic arsenic.  James is also renewing her call to the FDA to adopt protective federal standards for all baby food to be tested for toxic metals instead of testing just the individual ingredients.

Elkan Abramowitz, who is representing Cuomo s office, said the administration was hesitant to release the numbers because they were unsure if they were reliable. The chamber was never satisfied that the numbers that they were getting from DOH were accurate, Abramowitz told the Times. The Times also highlighted a Health Department report that was allegedly rewritten by Cuomo senior advisers a number of times. The final draft of that report insisted that admissions coming from hospitals were not a driver of nursing home infections or fatalities, instead saying that staff were the likely cause of spreading infections. However, a previous draft included a section that put the number of nursing home residents at more than 9,700, which was much higher than the administration was saying at the time, the report said. It also stated that about 35 percent of deaths in the state were nursing home residents but the report released to the public was changed to say 21 percent.
