Laemmle Officially Opens in Old Town Newhall

Nearly 100 people gathered in front of the highly anticipated Laemmle 7 in Newhall to officially open the theater to the Santa Clarita Valley community. Guests were welcomed by the sight of a table filled with theater popcorn, fountain drinks and water placed near a large red bow and ribbon waiting to be cut.
Mayor Bill Miranda was the master of ceremonies for the ribbon cutting event Friday attended by community members, members of the Laemmle family, the Santa Clarita City Council, Sen. Scott Wilk, Rep. Mike Garcia, sheriff’s officials and representatives for Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares and Assemblyman Tom Lackey.

Construction is well underway on the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in Canyon Country, with officials excited to move into the “state-of-the-art” facility after occupying their old space for nearly half a century.

Despite being months away from completion, a significant amount of progress has been made on the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, located just south of the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway.
Man Barricades Himself In Bus After Reported Robbery In Stevenson Ranch
A man barricaded himself inside of a charter bus after reportedly attempting to rob an individual at a nearby hotel in Stevenson Ranch on Thursday evening.
Just after 6:40 p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of a possible robbery at the Fairfield Inn on the 25300 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.
“The suspect actually went there and tried to rob a female for her purse,” Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Justin Diez told KHTS on scene.
Sheriff’s officials added that after the reported robbery attempt, the male suspect proceeded to a nearby charter bus, where he barricaded himself inside for several minutes.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances around Monday’s shooting inside a gated community in Canyon Country.
The suspect, described by law enforcement only as a Hispanic man, was struck twice in the upper torso and was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau officials.
While no other new information was available Tuesday morning, homicide detectives confirmed he was listed in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. Monday on MacMillan Ranch Road near Warm Springs Drive inside a gated community after the man drove a red Toyota Tacoma truck through the gate, forcing his way into the community, according to a Nixle released by the Sheriff’s Department.
