CSOs ask govt to fulfil promise of creating Rs10b population fund

ISLAMABAD: The coalition of 19 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on population calls upon the federal government to abide by the Council of Common Interests (CCI) decision of creating a Rs10 billion population fund, says a press release on Monday.
The CCI has endorsed a plan of action for achieving population stabilisation. The current budget has only allocated Rs1 billion against the original stipulated amount. The population fund has been created to fund the expansion of Lady Health Workers (LHWs); support innovative initiatives to improve access to family planning services and for procuring contraceptives. The provincial governments are required to match 50% amount of additional allocations for procurement of contraceptives and for increase in LHWs for 100% coverage for doorstep services.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has urged the government to focus on gender inclusive policies and take strong measures to bring more women to workplaces in order to realize the actual economic potential of the country.
The women were half of our total population and bringing them into the mainstream of the economy was very important to enhance their contribution in the economic development of the country, said Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, ICCI while addressing as chief guest at the District Convention of Women Workers Alliance.
The event was organized in collaboration with Sustainable Social Development Organization, which was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Ghazala Saifi, DG Health Hassan Orooj, Executive Director Sustainable Social Development Organization Syed Kausar Abbas, Clinical Psychologist Ms. Sobia Khateeb and ASP Investigation Ms. Ayesha.

The government should focus on gender inclusive policies and take strong measures to bring more women at workplaces in order to realise the actual economic potential of the country, reiterated Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan.
