The Economic and Social Council continued its annual Forum on Financing for Development today, holding two interactive panel discussions, during which speakers proposed potential solutions to COVID-19’s devastating impact on infrastructure investment lagging even before the novel coronavirus struck and sought ways to avoid a global post-pandemic recovery that leaves some behind.
Munir Akram (Pakistan), President of the Economic and Social Council, opened the meeting by emphasizing the global need for increased investment in sustainable infrastructure to meet development goals. Forum to highlight new initiatives to tackle
inequalities exacerbated by pandemic

YORK, 12 April – With many economies reeling as a
result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as inequalities
continue to widen, world leaders will discuss options to
unlock concrete investments to support a sustainable and
resilient recovery at the Forum on Financing for Development
(FfD
Forum) that starts today.
The four-day Forum,
held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social
Council (ECOSOC), is taking place as many countries are
facing increased financial debt and liquidity pressures
because of the pandemic. The FfD Forum will be held
Amy Fredregill brings ample experience to her new role as senior director of sustainability at WSB, a Twin Cities-based provider of engineering, planning, environmental and construction services.
Most recently, she was managing director of the Sustainable Growth Coalition, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that works with public, private and nonprofit clients on everything from clean air and water initiatives to sustainable landscaping.
As a go-to expert on sustainability and resiliency, Fredregill has supported the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives, Midwest Renewable Energy Tracking System Inc., and Xcel Energy initiatives, and has testified before the Legislature on clean energy and climate issues.
In the following interview, Fredregill talks about her duties with WSB, her previous work with public and private sector clients, and what communities are looking for on the sustainability front.
