The first report was a confirmed case in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, FauquierStrickland.
The second, the PHU declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at RYAM Lumber in Hearst. Two employees of RYAM Lumber are confirmed cases of COVID-19. The investigation has determined that the cases are related. Both are in self-isolation. The PHU is working closely with the workplace to ensure the infection prevention and control measures are in place. The management team at RYAM Lumber is taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The PHU has already followed up with close contacts (those with high risk exposures) and they are isolating at home.

“Medical assessments of our residents are ongoing, with our registered staff and the physician from Sensenbrenner Hospital on site each day.
“The team from Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) remains on site, supporting with additional staff and infection prevention and control best practices.”

On Wednesday, the team from TADH was “assisting with deep cleaning of resident rooms and further cohorting to help limit virus spread.”
In addition to the four deaths, the health unit reported five new COVID-19 cases among residents within its catchment area Wednesday.

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reported four new deaths in relation to the institutional outbreak of COVID-19 in Kapuskasing.
Since the outbreak at the Extendicare Long Term Care Home in Kapuskasing was issued on Wednesday, Jan. 6 there has been 11 deaths attributed to the pandemic.

Another confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported in relationship to an outbreak at the Extendicare Long Term Care Home in Kapuskasing.
Being declared an outbreak follows provincial guidelines pertaining to long term care homes.

Case #136 is in self isolation.
The staff at the facility are taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
Public health will notify all close contacts directly. If you are not contacted by public health, you are not considered a close contact.
