A weekend launch by Long Beach-based rocket developer
Rocket Lab has destroyed two satellites, in what the company described as an issue with its stage two rocket. The launch on Saturday from Rocket Lab s Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand occurred just after the Electron s two stages separated. In a statement, Rocket Lab said that the issue occurred shortly after stage two ignition . The destroyed rocket was carrying two, Earth-observing satellites for BlackSky, in a ride arranged by rocket ridesharing coordinator Spaceflight.

Chicago-based Clayco has announced that the firm is expanding its operations and establishing a West Coast regional office in Culver City. The real estate, architecture, engineering, design-build and construction firm has completed several billion dollars of work on projects along the West Coast, and still has a backlog of over $2B across Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona, according to a release announcing the expansion.
Jernigan comes to Clayco from architectural firm Gensler, where he was a managing principal. He will be Clayco’s senior vice president of integrated services and will be responsible for accelerating growth on this coast. Molnar, whose new title will be senior vice president for the Clayco Pacific Region, previously served at the executive leve

And maybe Matern who had developed a bit of a reputation for building and writing about how to build 1950s-style homes, might have been a touch insulted when Bonnie handed him a picture of renowned Long Beach-based architect Edward Killingsworth’s “Spaulding Residence,” a mid-modern home Killingsworth designed for a client in Piedmont in the East Bay near Oakland. It remains the only residence Killingsworth designed outside of Southern California.
