Ralph F DiOrrio, proud veteran

April 23, 2021 Ralph F. DiOrrio, 73, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Ralph was born in Wilmington July 13, 1947, son of the late Thomas DiOrrio and the late Virgie (Sears) DiOrrio.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.   After his service to his country, Ralph continued to serve his community as a Wilmington City Police Officer, retiring in 1988, after 20 years of service.  He was a member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, VFW Post 6984 in Milton and the Delaware Association of Police. Once Ralph retired and moved to Millsboro, he enjoyed the “beach life”.  He spent countless hours with his family fishing, boating and crabbing.  Ralph also enjoyed traveling, hunting and playing cards and billards.  The most important thing in life to him was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Rosalie I Schmitt, enjoyed raising children

April 18, 2021 Rosalie I. Schmitt, affectionately known as “Rosie” or “RoRo,” 83, of Lewes passed away surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Christiana Care in Newark. Rosie was born in Lewes Feb. 16, 1938, daughter of the late William Brack Porter and Vera Emily (Holston) Porter.  She was a graduate of Lewes High School class of 1956.   Rosie began her working career as a secretary at Stokely-Van Camp in Rehoboth Beach.  After meeting her husband, Frederick Schmitt, and starting her family she began her true vocation as a mom.  Being a Navy wife, she quickly learned how to organize large events to small intimate dinners with the officers and men of her husband’s ships at various navy bases.

Joseph M LeVan Sr , dedicated firefighter

April 12, 2021 Joseph M. LeVan Sr., 70, of Millsboro, formerly of New Castle County, passed away surrounded by his loving family Thursday, April 8, 2021, at his home. Joe was born in Wilmington Feb. 26, 1951, son of the late Paul and Emma (Hutchinson) LeVan.  He was a graduate of William Penn High School and retired after serving in several capacities for New Castle County.  Joe’s tenure in the Delaware Volunteer Fire Services spanned more than 50 years where he served on many committees and functions within the county, state and regional fire service entities. He joined Good Will Fire Company in 1970 at the age of 19, and later joined Indian River in 2001.  Joe culminated his tenure in the Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Association in 2014 by serving as its president.
