COVID Update New Jersey: Residents, staff at long-term care facilities begin getting 2nd dose of coronavirus vaccine

Anthony Johnson reports on New Jersey s State of the State address. Mildred, who has now live through two pandemics, received her shot to a round of applause. She was followed by nurse Esther Moodey, the state s first nursing home staff member to receive the vaccine. It is an understatement to say that this has been an incredibly challenging year for all of us in healthcare, on many levels, Moodey said after receiving the first dose. I am thankful for the COVID-19 vaccine and honored to be the first staff member at our facility receive it, in solidarity with my colleagues in other long term care facilities around New Jersey. The vaccine brings hope and optimism about the future and promise of a return to normal.

Michigan getting more COVID-19 vaccine doses next week than expected

Michigan getting more COVID-19 vaccine doses next week than expected Michigan s allotment of COVID-19 vaccine for next week will be nearly twice what was expected after the federal government informed state health officials late Wednesday that it will release an additional 60,000 doses, health officials said. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services learned on Tuesday that the state would receive 62,400 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for next week  a number that fell far short of what health providers have asked for. MDHHS informed the Detroit News on Wednesday that it would not be receiving any of the Moderna vaccine for the rest of the month. About 300,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine was being held in reserve for Walgreens and CVS pharmacies to administer in nursing homes through the Federal Long Term Care Program.

In fact, most vaccinations of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities didn’t begin until after the holiday. Popular Searches While Azar’s prediction was surely far too rosy, it highlights a process that has been delayed due to poor planning and bureaucratic red tape. Most states have joined with the federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program to distribute the vaccine. Under the program, two large chain pharmacies, CVS and Walgreens, are tasked with getting the vaccines to long-term care facilities.
