United Helpers to receive first COVID vaccines Dec 31; 17th death logged at Ogdensburg nursing home

CANTON — United Helpers is set to receive its first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine at the end of the month, with a second quantity expected in early January. United Helpers CEO Stephen E. Knight said Thursday the vaccines should arrive Dec. 31, at the Canton Rehabilitation and Senior Care facility, 205 Canton-Madrid Road, where all residents and 50% of staff members will be vaccinated. According to the organization’s daily update Thursday morning, 81 people reside at the Canton nursing home, and the state has not included Canton’s 47 Assisted Living residents in the first round of vaccinations. The Ogdensburg Rehabilitation and Senior Care facility, 8101 Route 68, which has been dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak since Nov. 22, is scheduled to receive vaccines Jan. 5. The same vaccination process will then begin for all residents and 50% staff.

COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Campbell County

On Tuesday, the county received a shipment of the vaccine created by Pfizer. The first vaccines will be administered at Campbell County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, said Dane Joslyn, Campbell County Health spokesperson. CCH employees directly involved in patient care, along with Emergency Medical Services workers — including Campbell County Fire Department EMTs who assist EMS — will be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, a CCH press release said. Statewide, 4,875 doses of the vaccine have been received, divided into five packages of 975 doses each. In addition to Campbell County, packages of the vaccine also have been sent to the public health departments in Cody and Cheyenne, according to the Wyoming Department of Health.

When will nursing home residents get the COVID-19 vaccine?

Many Texas nursing home and other long-term care residents and staff members are likely to have to wait another two weeks to be vaccinated for COVID-19 even though they were included in the first group of people who were chosen for inoculation, health officials say. Long-term care residents and hospital staff members are eligible to receive the vaccine, along with long-term care facility employees, including physicians, nurses, personal care assistants and custodial and food workers. However, though the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been administered at places such as Methodist Dallas Medical Center and Parkland Hospital, many long-term care facilities have opted into a federal program for vaccinations that will take longer to roll out.
